For students who have not yet taken the PSAT, SAT or ACT
exams, HARE provides strategic direction about the nature and focus of the tests.
Which Test Should I Take?
When the time comes to decide on the test you want to take for college admissions, you have two choices: ACT or SAT.
The purpose of the tests is the same — to help colleges predict your chances of success during your freshman year. Your test scores along with your high school grades are quite accurate predictors of freshman success.
Is One Test Better than the Other?
Colleges throughout the country may prefer either ACT or SAT. For example, in the Midwest, ACT is the primary choice. For East coast and West coast colleges, SAT is preferred or required. Many students will take both ACT and SAT and submit the results of both tests.
No matter which test (or tests) a student chooses, it is very important to use the free practice tests available. These practice tests provide great insight into how the questions are designed and the type of information tested. The practice tests will help you pace yourself and become familiar with the test. In addition, a student can determine a plan of study for the tests.
